What does acupuncture treat?

While acupuncture is often associated with pain, in the hands of a well trained practitioner, it has much broader applications.  Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment used, or as the support or adjunct to other medical treatment forms in many medical disorders.  The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems such as:

Digestive disorders:  gastritis, hyper-acidity, constipation, diarrhea

Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma

Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, facial tics, neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, tendonitis, low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis.

Urinary, menstrual and reproductive problems:  menopause, painful menstruation, infertility, UTI’s

Tension, stress, and emotional conditions, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture stimulates fine nerve vessels, lymph nodes, fascia, and energetic lines in the body to stimulate a healing response.  It improves the body’s functions to promote its natural self healing processes. The acu points are stimulated by the use of fine, sterile, single use needles.  Multiple studies in animals and humans have demonstrated that acupuncture can cause many biological responses. It has been shown to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation and promote homeostasis.
